MOZAMBIQUE, Mandimba Town.
£2,500
Urban water project. Contributing towards establishing communal water points/protected wells, which will provide safe water, even during the dry season.
Since independance from Portugal in 1975, 17 years of civil war has left Mozambique's infrastructure in chaos. It is one of the poorest nations in the world.
Existing water sources in Mandimba town are unprotected and open to contamination by animals and from lack of sanitation.
Installation of the protected water points will relieve the dangers of water related illnesses and disease spread by mosquitos and other insects.
This is part of a larger programme which will provide latrines and hygiene education.
Financed through Water Aid (London, UK), working with their in-country partner ESTAMOS (non profit NGO).
