£1,730.
Livelihood Improvements programme for 200 families (tribal communities), living in 4 villages in the foothills of the Himalayas (at the tri-junction of India, Nepal and Tibet).

These marginalised people (dalits and tribal people) are living in poverty, without nutritious food. Although India is a middle income country - 1/4 of the world's poor live there.

Dalit and tribal communities are particularly excluded from India's recent economic growth. There is widespread poverty.

Frequent natural disasters, degraded soils, inappropriate use of fertilisers and very small holdings, means that people struggle to grow enough food to sustain themselves, for even 6 months of the year.

This project will ensure that they have enough to eat all year round and that surpluses are generated to sell. 1,000 fruit trees will be planted to provide: bananas, guavas, mangoes, oranges and pears.

A plant nursery will also be set up and compost pits will be established. Full horticultural training will be given.
Agricultural livelihoods will be ensured by using sustainable vegan-organic farming methods. Harvests will be increased and farmers' nutritional and financial self-sufficiency will be improved.

Financed through Find Your Feet (London, UK).
